In my home it is important to me that my family can rest secure in knowing that we can provide food for ourselves. This seems like a simple enough thing when there is a grocery store on most corners, but what happens if the store cannot get the food products needed to support the needs of their customers? We are spoiled by the ease at which we can go to the market & purchase anything our hearts desire. Growing your own food does not need to be difficult & you don't need to have acres of land to grow your own food.
What happens when commercial growing operations are unable to meet the needs of an ever growing population? When my family lived on a 10,000 square foot lot we were able to grow much of our own food & that is when I purchased my first chickens. Chickens are the easiest livestock to have in small spaces & offer hours & hours of entertainment, and as an added bonus you get fresh eggs. Just don't get a rooster if you live in the city. Fresh eggs are the best and you know what your chickens are eating, as well as what you are eating. They keep your yard clean & the bugs at bay naturally and most of your food waste can be eliminated. It is a win, win for you & your family, offering you peace of mind that seems harder & harder to achieve in this day & age.

The chart above shows where a majority of our food comes from. If you do not like the course that our country is on I encourage you to vote with your dollars by not supporting these companies. To take it a step further support companies that allow their employees the ability to say "Merry Christmas."
Why are we now seeing the cost of gasoline being lower than a pound of butter? I have yet to figure it out but food insecurity is becoming an issue that we cannot ignore. If we limit our purchases to staples (grains, coffee, sugar) that are not easy to grow yourself and start small by growing some of the foods we consume regularly ourselves, perhaps it will impact how many of these corporations conduct business? One can hope.
