I hope that everyone had a peace filled Thanksgiving. We are truly blessed in America. There are no food shortages that we can see at this time, but this might not always be the case. So even though we have entered into the cold months of winter it is important to keep our gardens and livestock in the front of our thoughts. If you have never given thought to composting it is a simple process. Just lay a tarp on the ground & put all of those leaves on it. Cover with the corners of the tarp and throw a rock on it so that it doesn't blow in the wind. If you are lucky enough to have livestock throw in their waste into the mix and voila by spring with a few days of sun you should have some very nice compost to add to your pots, garden beds or yard. You can also as food scraps, coffee grinds and ash from the fireplace. There are so many simple things we can do to be more self sufficient and by using what we have live a more sustainable life. As for livestock it is important to make sure that they are drinking water on the cold days.
